Cherry tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes are called “garden tomatoes”. They stand out from normal tomatoes by small size. They look like cherries by shape & have a light weight (10-30 g), that’s why they are called “cherry”. This variety was bred in Israel.
The total Russian tomato import in 2014 amounted 845 848 tons according to Federal Customs Service, what made nearly 35% of total vegetable import to the Russian market. Tomatoes are importing to Russia from Turkey, China, Israel & Egypt. The main tomato importer is Turkey. Its share in total Russian tomato import amounted 43% in 2014. The share of China made 10,7%.

Varieties:
Cherry tomatoes may be of lenghthened, droplike & round shape. These small tomatoes have rather varied colors: green, red, yellow, orange, pink.
The field varieties are:
- Busiki is the productive variety with sweet tomatoes with the size not more than 1 cm in diameter.
- Honey drop is the type with nice yellow pear-shaped tomatoes.
- White currant type has cream-coloured, round & very tasty tomatoes.
- Black cherry is very rare variety. Sometimes it is taken to be fruit.
- Cherrylike variety has dark red round tomatoes.
- Red / yellow cherry is the early variety grown in greenhouses.
